US solar tracker maker NEXTracker Inc will establish next year an operations centre in the province of Mendoza to supply products to the Argentine and other regional solar markets.
In a first stage, the company, which is owned by Flex Ltd (NASDAQ:FLEX), will search for local raw material suppliers and it will seek to produce locally the two main metallic components of its trackers for photovoltaic (PV) projects, the local government said.
The provincial undersecretary of Energy and Mining, Emilio Guinazu, stressed on the importance of having such a company establishing a local centre, as it will develop a broad chain of suppliers that will allow the production of all the necessary components in the province.
According to the government, NexTracker chose Mendoza due to the province’s friendly regulatory framework, its strategic location, and the existing industry as the company will need local metallurgical suppliers of high quality.
This centre comes to support the country’s ambitions to install 1 GW of renewable energy per year, of which half can be from solar power, the undersecretary noted.
